Amina Fatima Hassan was born on March 25, 1952, in Mogadishu, Somalia, to Ibrahim and Halima Hassan. She grew up in a household anchored by faith, hospitality, and the belief that caring for others is among the highest callings a person can answer. Amina memorized large portions of the Quran as a child and carried its teachings as a living guide throughout her life. She immigrated to the United States in 1992 with her husband and four children, settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she would spend the next three decades building a new life without ever losing the warmth and rootedness of the one she had left behind. She learned English quickly, earned her GED, and became a certified nursing assistant, working at Hennepin Healthcare for eighteen years. Her patients adored her. Her colleagues trusted her completely. Amina was a beloved figure at Masjid An-Nur in Minneapolis, where she volunteered in the women's education program, helped coordinate Eid celebrations, and quietly assisted newly arrived Somali families with everything from navigating school enrollment to finding winter coats. She cooked for anyone who was sick, grieving, or simply far from home. She raised her children with equal measures of discipline and tenderness, teaching them to pray, to study, to be honest, and to never let a neighbor go hungry. Her grandchildren knew her as the person whose lap was always available and whose kitchen always smelled of cardamom and rice. Amina Fatima Hassan returned to the mercy of Allah on August 2, 2026. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un — Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

Reciting and teaching Quran; cooking traditional Somali dishes — especially bariis iskukaris and suqaar; sewing and embroidering; organizing Eid celebrations at Masjid An-Nur; visiting and caring for sick neighbors; tending her small herb garden

Her husband of 48 years, Omar Abdi Hassan; four children: Fadumo Hassan-Warsame (Ahmed) of Minneapolis, MN, Abdirahman Hassan (Safia) of St. Paul, MN, Hodan Hassan-Osman (Mahad) of Columbus, OH, and Yusuf Hassan (Nimo) of Minneapolis, MN; fourteen grandchildren; and her sisters, Faadumo and Sahra Hassan, of Minneapolis, MN.
