Yusuf Ibrahim Ali

July 14, 1944July 25, 2026

Karachi, Pakistan · Houston, Texas

Yusuf Ibrahim Ali was born on July 14, 1944, in Karachi, Pakistan, to Ibrahim and Zainab Ali. He was the eldest of six children and assumed the responsibilities of that role early and without complaint. His father was a merchant; his mother was the moral center of the household. From both, Yusuf learned the twin pillars of his character: diligence and integrity. Yusuf earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Karachi in 1967 and immigrated to the United States in 1972, settling in Houston, Texas, where he built a career with the Harris County Flood Control District that spanned over thirty years. He rose to the position of Senior Project Engineer and was known for his precision, his calm under pressure, and his willingness to mentor younger engineers regardless of their background. He married Fatima Begum in 1970, and together they raised five children in a home where Fajr prayer was the start of every day, education was the family's highest investment, and guests were always welcomed with tea and whatever was on the stove. Yusuf was a founding member of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston and served on its board for over a decade, helping to oversee the construction of the community's first dedicated mosque. He was a man of few words and great presence. His children describe a father who showed love through action — attending every school event, teaching them to drive, reviewing their homework, and sitting with them through every difficulty without judgment. His grandchildren knew him as the grandfather who always had a story and always had time. Yusuf Ibrahim Ali passed from this world on July 25, 2026, at the age of 81. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
